     ABC Summer Primetime, 1970, as "The Smothers Brothers Summer Show")

    [After their first series, a CBS sitcom, lasted one season,
     CBS cast the offbeat sibling comedy team of Tom and Dick
     Smothers in a format more suitable to their strengths -- 
     comedy/variety -- a format that allowed them to "stretch".
     Given enough rope...and success...they let themselves "push
     the envelope" by becoming more political than the network
     was comfortable with. When the network started demanding
     approval of the content before it aired, a controversial
     row ensued that resulted in CBS cancelling the series...

     ABC picked it up for a Summer series, but it was lukewarm,
     Although Tom Smothers tried an offbeat Syndicated show, it

     Although Nelson Riddle and his Orchestra were featured, the
     theme was a collaboration between the singer Nancy Ames,
     and guitarist/composer Mason Williams who was best known for
     his classical-jazz instrumental hit, "Classical Gas".]
