The People's Court (courtroom reality, featuring Judge
Wapner)
(Syndicated, 1981 - 1993)
[one of the first courtroom reality series, it made famous the
names of Judge Joseph A. Wapner who presided over the squabbling
parties, announcer Doug Llewelyn, and Rusty the Bailiff...it was
one of the longest-running syndicated shows ever lasting 12 years;
In 1998 Ralph Edwards Productions attempted a revival called
"The New People's Court" which was short-lived;
"The People's Court" inspired many other imitators that are still
seen today with various judges dispensing "studio justice"...in
a kind of verbal wrestling match that fascinates some people...]
Theme 1: "The Big One (Prelude)"
[ASCAP title variations...
aka: "People's Court (Sig)";
aka: "People's Court Theme";
aka: "Theme from 'People's Court'";
This production theme from the British "Themes" music library
included several cues with the same melody at different lengths;
the track used on the series was the Prelude;
As a background track it had a rather ignoble career -- appearing
in several low-budget and soft porn films including "Malibu High",
"Misty Beethoven","Barbara Broadcast" and "Teen Lust";
In 2000, Robert Shim Kirkland and Shawn Carter (known as "Jay-Z")
incorporated the recording using digital sampling techniques in
a rap dance hit called "People's Court" performed by "Jay-Z"]
