Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous (fantasy travelogue, narrated by Robin Leach)

     (Syndicated, 1984;
      Syndicated, 1994)

    [A mid-80's celebrity & wealth-worship series produced and
     narrated by Australian host Robin Leach. Appropriate and sucessful
     for the "greed-is-good" decade of the 1980s, the show was a kind of
     dream getaway for viewers to see how the "rich and famous" presumably
     live -- presented in a fantasy-travelogue style. Of course, we don't
     actually get to see how the "rich and famous" deal in their lifestyle
     with marital problems, substance abuse, scandals, paparazzi, tabloid
     expose's, etc -- only the perks of a rich lifestyle were revealed on TV.

     The show opened with a memorable THEME tune, arranged as an orchestral
     instrumental in a disco style, which had been the rage in the mid 1970s,
     and inspired the "The Love Boat" theme as well.

     But the melody actually originated in a Love Theme for the George Peppard
     movie "Five Days From Home" (1979) with composer credit for the movie
     given to film/pop arranger/composer Bill Conti who had written the
     hit theme tune from the film "Rocky";

     Five years later "Five Days From Home" became the signature "(Sig)"
     theme for the "Lifestyles..." TV series under the new title "Robin Bound"
     no-doubt alluding to producer/host Robin Leach on his quest of fame and
     fortune.

     Under this title, it is credited to both composer Bill Conti and a
     New York jingle writer named Michael Karp. Possibly Michael Karp
     contributed the disco arrangement for the THEME on TV;

     The melody also had a lyric written by Norman Gimbel under the vocal title
     "Come With Me Now" which had been written for the movie in 1979;

     Then in 1987 a second THEME song for the TV show was commissioned. Its
     title came from a line host Leach often closed the show with -- in which
     he hoped his viewers would all have "champagne wishes and caviar dreams..."
     This THEME was first heard on the air in 1988.

     Vocalist Dionne Warwick recorded the second theme song and was given
     co-writer credit for this theme as well...

     After the first version of the series ended, it was again resurrected
     in 1994 as 'Lifestyles' with co-hosts Robin Leach and Shari Belafonte]
