The Legend Of Jesse James (western, starring Chris Jones)

    (ABC Primetime, 1965 - 1966)

    [this mid-60s series did indeed try to create a "legend" more
     than tell the truth, by portraying Jesse James as a kind of
    "Robin Hood of the Old West" (to borrow a phrase -- this was
     the phrase used to describe an earlier TV star -- the Cisco
     Kid about 15 years earlier.)

     The problem was that this one-season series stretched the
     historical truth and credibility to the breaking point in
     making such a claim for the younger brother of the James gang;

     Allen Case played the role of brother Frank, and their mother
     was played by Ann Doran; a frustrated pursuing U. S. marshall
     named Sam Corbett rounded out the cast, played by Robert Wilke]
