The Gumby Show (children)

     (NBC Saturday Mornings, 1957 - 1958;
      Syndicated, 1966)

     [This series was a spin-off from "Howdy Doody" where the
      unusual animated films were aired in 1956...

      Stop motion clay figures were animated in this series of
      adventures which were originally hosted by Bobby Nicholson
      who had played Clarabell and Cornelius Cobb...and later
      the host was Pinky Lee; the animation was produced by
      Art Clokey who called it "Pixillation"; it was later
      called "Claymation" by others who used a similar stop-
      motion technique; Clokey also used it to produce a 1962
      children's religious series called "Davey And Goliath";

      Gumby was a strip of clay who looked like a strip of gum;
      his horse was named "Pokey" and had a dog named "Nopey"
      if it sounds a bit "dopey", that's because it was :-)

      It was revived for a syndicated run in 1966; and they
      even attempted "Gumby -- The Movie" in 1995 which was
      ambitiously titled "Gumby I" but there never was a need
      for a sequel, "Gumby II"...at least not yet...:-)]
