Giant Step / Take A Giant Step (game show, hosted by Bert Parks)

    (CBS Primetime, 1956 - 1957)

[Students competed for a college scholarship in this game
show on a floor which was painted as a giant game board
with 8 squares, if they gave the correct response to
questions asked by M. C. Parks they moved forward toward
a college education...but if not -- well it was sort of
like "You're the weakest, so goodbye..." 1950s audiences
were not apparently ready for such a heartless idea --
     not until 1999 apparently... :-)]

Theme: "Theme For General Mills' Giant Step"

[above is the title as it was filed for copyright]

[The "Encyclopedia of TV Game Shows" by David Schwartz, Steve
Ryan and Fred Wostbrock states the THEME derived from
Englebert Humperdinck's 1894 opera "Hansel and Gretel",
whose most famous duet tune was "Abendsegen", translated
usually as "Evening Prayer" or sometimes called the
    "Children's Prayer"]
