The Frontier (western anthology)

     (NBC Primetime, 1955 - 1956)

     [this dramatic anthology was set in days of the old West;
      The venerable Worthington "Tony" Miner, creator of such
      dramatic anthologies as "Studio One" produced this series;

     "Frontier" had no continuing characters since it was a
      dramatic anthology; only narrator Walter Coy was heard
      each week and he made occasional acting appearances;

      The tone of the show was expressed in his opening narration:
     "This is the West. This is the land of beginning again. This
      is the story of men and women facing The Frontier. This is
      the way it happened..."

      The realistic depictions and stories varied week to week;
      and this may have been the weakness which caused it to
      only last one season; perhaps Westerns need a continuing
      hero...ala Matt Dillon, Bat Masterson, Bret Maverick, etc.]
