The Dick Cavett Show [#6] (talk/interview)

    (ABC Nighttime, 1986)

     This was the sixth of several talk and variety shows hosted
     by the genial witty intellectual comedian from Nebraska, who
     was a devoted fan and friend of Groucho Marx in his later
     years, and a friend of Woody Allen from his early career;

     After a five-year break from series TV, Dick Cavett returned
     on last time for another late-night talk/interview show, this
     time again on ABC; unfortunately it only lasted one season]

Theme: "Overture (to 'Candide')"

    [above is the title as listed in the ASCAP database; variations:
     aka: "Overture To Candide";
     aka: "Overture";
     aka: "Candide Overture";

     this is an Overture to what is described in copyright
     records as "Candide -- a comic operetta based on
     Voltaire's satire"; The overture is part of a 1955 score
     originally filed under the name: "Music for 'Candide'";

     Although only Leonard Bernstein is listed in the filing
     for copyright below, ASCAP also lists a number of others
     in its database as credited composers of the Overture; but
     these people in reality were involved in writing lyrics, or
     the book or other aspects of the stage musical production;

     for this "Dick Cavett Show" a light jazz-styled arrangement
     was made of the Candide Overture]
