    [15 months after the end of Edward R. Murrow's "See It Now",
     Fred Friendly (Murrow's producer at CBS) developed this
     long-running documentary series, which continued winning
     prestigious awards for the network.]


Theme 1: "Appalachian Spring"(excerpt based upon the hymn tune, "Simple Gifts")

    [aka: "Variations On A Shaker Melody";

     Verified also as the THEME in TV Guide article "Looking
     For A Lost Chord?" April 28, 1962, pp. 12-13;

     For his ballet "Appalachian Spring", Aaron Copland used 
     old American folk tunes including a Shaker hymn called
    "Simple Gifts". The section of the ballet which was used
     as the "CBS Reports" THEME based upon "Simple Gifts", and
     comes about midway through the ballet.]
