[Bob Keeshan played the original "Clarabelle, the Clown"
on the "Howdy Doody" TV Show; He starred as the gentle
genial and patient "Captain" of the show; His sidekick
was a guy with suspenders named "Mr. Green Jeans" played
by character actor Hugh "Lumpy" Brannum (narrator of the
"Little Orley" children's records during the 1940s and
early 1950s);
During the 1950s, cartoon segments were popular, featuring
Paul Terry's "Tom Terrific" who could magically transform
himself at will, and his faithful sidekick -- "Mighty Manfred",
the wonder dog...who eventually was spun off into his own
series of cartoons...]

This was a track from a British production library known
as the "Chappell Recorded Music Library" which was sold
through a New York company called Emil Ascher; the tune's
original title referred to a British steam locomotive; it
became so popular, that in 1957 permission was granted for
Mary Rodgers to write lyrics to the tune and it was given
the vocal title "Captain Kangaroo"]
