The Bob Newhart Show (comedy-variety)

     (NBC Primetime, 1961 - 1962)

     [the first of three network series featuring "The Button-down
      Mind of Bob Newhart" who began as an intellectual comedian
      with a number of hit comedy records in the 1950s; this series
      also included a number of regular comedians and intelligent
      monologues; and a great band with bandleader Paul Weston;
      the series was a critic's darling, but failed to get the
      ratings to last more than one season; luckily Bob got a couple
      more chances on CBS to play roles in sitcoms produced by
      Mary Tyler Moore and her husband Grant Tinker during the
      1970s and 1980s; these sitcoms were huge successes both
      on the network and in syndication]
