That's My Boy (sitcom, starring Eddie Mayehoff and Gil Stratton, Jr.)

    [Based upon the 1951 motion picture in which Mayehoff starred
     with Jerry Lewis, this series was based upon the same premise -- 
     that of a retired football star who constantly tries to make
     a "man" out of his bookish intellectual son "Junior" through 
     a variety of efforts which inevitably fail; 

     Although it sounds like a disfunctional bullying father is
     abusing his son, the series seemed to resonate with the 
     family values of the Eisenhower generation...]
