Portia Faces Life / The Inner Flame (soap opera)
[This was an attempt to translate a long running radio series
(since 1940) to television; the premise (as well as the title)
was a bit melodramatic; it surrounded the adventures of a woman
who chooses a career as an attorney over the traditional
1940/1950s role as a housewife; perhaps the drama in that
situation was already beginning to wear thin by the mid-
1950s; but when it became obvious that the translation wasn't
working, there was a desperate attempt to re-cast its roles and
change its title to "The Inner Flame"; still the problems proved
too intractible, so the melodrama ended after one season in
favor of less "over the top" soaps which followed]
(CBS Daytime, 1954 - 1955)
Theme: "Portia Faces Life Theme"
[one change for television was to replace the typical organ
score with one supplied by Tony Mottola and his jazz combo;
Mottola's group also supplied underscores for the dramatic
anthology series called "Danger" during Primetime]
