Margie (sitcom, starring Cynthia Pepper)

     (ABC Primetime, 1961 - 62)

     [A single-season sitcom -- about a teenage girl
growing up in New England in the 1920's; although the TV
series was loosely based upon a theatrical film of the
1940s starring Jean Crain which had the same characters
and setting, the producers tried to make the situation
analogous to the problems of growing up in the 1960s --
comparing them to those of the "Roaring Twenties"; and
although the problems of keeping pot smoking from your
parents could be compared to the problems of keeping them
from knowing about your bathtub gin, apparently there
were not enough people in the audience who saw these
similarities or cared, to keep the show on the air.

Not to be confused with the 1952 sitcom "My Little Margie"
     starring Gale Storm, which see.]
